atlas — a flight through nine worlds: real-time 3D vibedemo in 5 KB (5,622 bytes)

A continuous flight through nine worlds, sixteen seconds each: an ocean at dawn with islands and sailboats, a desert with pyramids and hot-air balloons, a forest at sunset, a city at night with flying cars, an ice canyon full of crystals, a temple on the water at dusk, an asteroid field with a station, floating islands above the clouds, and a last flyover of the ocean, climbing toward the sun. House at 120 BPM, 2:24. This is not an animated film: it is a 5 KB (5,622 bytes) Linux program that computes everything while it runs. There is no video, no texture, no 3D model and no audio file. The scenery is made of mathematical formulas drawn with raymarching in an OpenGL shader, and the music is synthesized on the GPU by a fragment shader, one stereo sample per pixel. Every movement is locked to the music, so the demo plays exactly the same every time. Rendered frame by frame from the program, 1080p at 60 fps.
